'Aliens are real, but I haven't seen them': Former US President Barack Obama

Washington: Former US President Barack Obama has clarified his statement about Illinois, saying that the chances of the arrival of space creatures on Earth are "low".

In a podcast on Saturday, Obama responded to a question from American podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen about aliens, saying, "Aliens really exist, but I haven't seen them."

"No aliens have been placed in Area 51," Obama said. There is no underground installation," he said.

Obama later said his remarks were in line with a fast-paced question-and-answer session. He explained that the universe is so vast that there could be possibilities for life somewhere, but during his presidency he saw "no evidence" of space creatures contacting Earth.

Obama's opening remarks came during a brief "lightning round" where the first question was, "Are space creatures really there?"

Obama's response to the question was broadcast by various media outlets and quickly went viral online, after which he issued a clarifying statement on his official Instagram account on Sunday.

"I was answering fast questions, but since it's focused, let me explain that the universe is so vast that there could be possibilities for life," he wrote alongside the video clip. But the distances between the solar systems are so great that there is little chance that we have been visited by space creatures, and during my presidency I have seen no evidence that the aliens have contacted us."
